The Inter-Parliamentary Union, in cooperation with the Parliament of Bahrain, will be organizing the Fourth Regional Conference of Women Parliamentarians and Women in Political Decision-making Positions of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) States.
The conference, entitled "National plans on gender equality: The role of women parliamentarians", will be held in Manama, Bahrain, on 9 and 10 December 2009.
The purpose of the meeting is to identify ways and means of strengthening the input of both parliament and women MPs in the preparation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of national strategies and plans of action to promote equality, women’s rights and women’s empowerment in the region.
This conference is the fourth in a series of regional events organized by the IPU to support the participation and input of women parliamentarians in the political processes and solidarity in the region. Women parliamentarians and women in political decision-making positions from Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen are expected to attend the meeting.
