THIRD REGIONAL CONFERENCE OF WOMEN PARLIAMENTARIANS AND WOMEN IN POLITICAL DECISION-MAKING POSITIONS OF THE GCC STATES Muscat (Oman), 21-22 December 2008 Organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union in cooperation with the Shura Council of the Sultanate of Oman

	The Inter-Parliamentary Union, in cooperation with the Shura Council of the Sultanate of Oman, has organized the Third Regional Conference of Women Parliamentarians and Women in Political Decision-making Positions of the Gulf Cooperation Council States. The conference, entitled "Partnership between women parliamentarians, the media and women’s associations", was held in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman on 21 and 22 December 2008. The Conference brought together women parliamentarians and women in political decision making positions of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen to debate, share their experience and strategize together to devise common solutions and initiatives. The conference examined how both the media and women’s associations can serve as a useful vector of change for women in politics and how women parliamentarians, the media and women’s associations can ally for gender equality and women’s issues. The first conference was held, in Manama in July 2006, at the invitation of the Shura Council of Bahrain and the second in Abu Dhabi in October 2007, at the invitation of the Federal National Council of the UAE.
