In the space of a few decades, women have started to penetrate
spheres of public life that had remained closed to them for centuries,
but they have been confronted with the reality that the world
of politics put up more resistance to their integration than any
other.
Throughout the world, women and also men and many organisations
including the Inter-Parliamentary Union, have sought to understand
the nature and scope of the phenomenon and the means to melt down
this resistance and resolve the democratic deficit it generates,
thus producing a body of literature which is daily being enriched
and diversified on women's participation in political life.
Today, anyone wishing to know what has been written on the subject of women's participation in political life or on a particular aspect of this question is faced with a challenge: not so much the challenge of the scarcity of bibliographical references, but rather that of the difficulty of gaining access to a reliable database containing a broad selection of bibliographical references grouped by affinities.
 | The World Bibliography seeks to fill this gap. Even though its stock has been exhausted and the publication is no longer available, as of year 2000 the bibliography is accessible for research on this site in the form of an on-line database. It is constantly up-dated to take account of new books and articles produced throughout the world on the subject of women in politics. All those able to indicate new bibliographical references that are pertinent are invited to do so. |
