The Regional Seminar on HIV and AIDS for the parliaments belonging to the IPU Asia-Pacific Group will be held from 10-12 December 2009 in Hanoi, Vietnam. This important event is being organized jointly by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the National Assembly of Vietnam.

The seminar is part of a series of regional training events that the IPU launched in the aftermath of the first Global Parliamentary Meeting on HIV/AIDS. Members of parliament involved in development and oversight of HIV-related legislation are the target audience of these seminars.

Within this broad topic, the participants will focus on immediate and long-term responses that address HIV prevalence among the populations at higher risk from HIV. The discussions will draw on the IPU Handbook for Parliamentarians on HIV and AIDS and the Conclusions of the Global Meeting.
