The Vienna Forum to Fight Human Trafficking - a global event - took place from 13 to 15 February 2008 under the framework of the United Nations-sponsored Global Initiative to Fight Human Trafficking. The Forum provided an open platform to share and assess existing data and research developed to date, raise awareness, and build upon existing and forge new partnerships to enable all parties involved to take concrete steps to fight human trafficking, within their respective spheres of action. The Forum addressed such issues as vulnerabilities and root causes of human trafficking, its human and social consequences as well as innovative approaches to solving complex problems.

The Inter-Parliamentary Union, in cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Austrian Parliament, organized a one-day Parliamentary Forum on 12 February 2008 as a prelude to the main event, the Vienna Forum.
