Translating international human rights commitments into national realities: The role of parliaments and their contribution to the
Universal Periodic Review of the United Nations Human Rights Council
San Salvador, 27-28 November 2017 (postponed)

Organized jointly by the IPU and the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador in collaboration with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights

The seminar in San Salvador is part of a series of regional events aimed at strengthening the contribution of parliaments to the work of the United Nations Human Rights Council. The main purpose of this event is to inform participants of how its Universal Periodic Review (UPR) works and to sensitize them to the importance of being involved in this mechanism. Another objective is to identify good parliamentary practices in collaborating with the Council and in addressing specific human rights challenges facing the region, including through cooperation with other stakeholders, such as national human rights organizations and various civil society actors.

All Parliaments of Central America as well as the Parliaments of Cuba and the Dominican Republic are invited to participate. The proceedings will take place exclusively in Spanish.
