Following in the footsteps of the regional seminar held in Dakar on 21 and 22 September 2010, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) and the African Security Sector Network (ASSN), in collaboration with the National Assembly of Mali, will be organizing a regional workshop in Bamako on 28 and 29 November 2011.

The purpose of the Bamako workshop is twofold: strengthen parliament’s capacity to address security questions in an efficient way with a view to enhancing the parliamentary contribution to governance of the security sector at the national level; and promote parliamentary cooperation at the regional level in order to achieve greater harmonization.

The workshop is open to parliamentarians from ECOWAS Member States and representatives of the ECOWAS Parliament and civil society. The parliaments of Mauritania, Mozambique and Namibia have also been invited to attend.
