The Inter-Parliamentary Union, in cooperation with the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates, is organizing a regional conference of women parliamentarians and women in decision-making positions of the Gulf Cooperation Council States.

The conference is entitled "Women making a difference in parliament"
and will be held in Abu Dhabi on 30 and 31 October 2007.

This conference is the second of a series of regional events organized by the IPU aimed at providing a forum for women parliamentarians and women political decision makers in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen. It will examine the role and input of women legislators and the mechanisms to promote women’s access to parliament. It will also provide a space for exchange on the best practices on mainstreaming gender in parliament.

The first conference was held, in Manama in July 2006, at the invitation of the Shura Council of Bahrain.
