Mandate The Legal Committee deals with questions related to justice in general and human rights in particular.
Membership The Chamber determines the number of members and the number of posts allocated to each parliamentary group for the duration of the legislature. The Bureau of each of the committees is elected for the duration of the session.
Working methods The committees usually meet to examine themes or dossiers which have been referred to them. They may also choose themes on their own initiative. In principle, meetings are not public. Committees may organise field visits and hearings.
Relations with other parliamentary bodies Unless the Chamber decides otherwise, each committee is entitled to have relations and exchange information with other parliamentary bodies.
Relations with external bodies Committees may invite various bodies to its meetings or communicate in writing with them, but always through the President of the Chamber of Deputies.
Subjects dealt with Draft legislation: 1. introducing criminal responsibility of legal entities in the Penal Code and in the Code of Criminal Investigation; 2. modifying the Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Investigation and some other legislative provisions; draft legislation on parental responsibility; draft legislation furthering the rights of victims of penal offences and improving the protection of witnesses; draft legislation on trafficking in human beings, (1) approving: (a) the additional Protocol to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, aimed at preventing, suppressing and punishing trafficking in persons, especially women and children, open to signature from 12 to 15 December 2000 in Palermo, and (b) the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings, signed in Warsaw on 16 May 2005.
