Mandate |
As an informal entity based on the will of a number of interested MPs, the Parliamentary Group for Human Rights has no official terms of reference. It has nevertheless set itself the long-term goal of establishing in Switzerland a national human rights institution (consistent with the Paris Principles). |
Membership |
The Group is made up of MPs from both Houses who attend its meetings on an entirely voluntary basis. |
Working methods |
The Group meets four times a year during parliamentary sessions for discussion contributed to by outside experts from civil society and/or the Government on topics related to parliamentary matters or based on the personal choice of the Chairperson or Secretariat. |
Relations with other parliamentary bodies |
The Group maintains no formal link with the other bodies of Parliament. |
Relations with external bodies |
The Group reserves the right to take such action as it may deem appropriate vis-à-vis the Government. NGOs are regularly invited to take part in its meetings, and the Group's Secretariat is even provided by an NGO. |
