Draft United Nations General Assembly resolution
Recalling its resolution 56/46 of 7 December 20011 which welcomed the ongoing efforts to explore ways in which a new and strengthened relationship may be established between the General Assembly and its subsidiary organs on the one hand and the Inter-Parliamentary Union on the other, and encouraged Member States to continue their consultations with a view to adopting a decision thereon during the fifty-seventh session of the Assembly, Having considered the report of the Secretary-General (A/57/...) which takes stock of cooperation between the two organizations over the last twelve months, Having also considered the report of the Secretary-General of 26 June 2001 in which, after consultations with Member States and IPU, he recommended that the General Assembly consider: (a) Granting IPU a standing invitation to participate, as appropriate, in the sessions and work of the General Assembly, its subsidiary organs and international conferences convened under the auspices of the United Nations,Taking into consideration the cooperation agreement between the United Nations and the Inter-Parliamentary Union of 1996, which provides the foundation for current cooperation between the two organizations, Recalling the unique inter-state character of the Inter-Parliamentary Union,
